It only takes is a quick glance at one of Tony Malmed‘s jewelry pieces to instantly become mesmerized with the raw and subtly refined beauty that he so beautifully curates in his wearable art.

There is something so clean, fluid, fresh, but somehow unthreateningly primal in Tony’s pieces. I can’t quiet put my finger on it. It is almost as if the care and inspiration that goes into each handmade piece somehow emanates from these pieces and choice stones in a beautiful and in turn inspiring way.

Tony and his wife Gayatri travel the world in  search of materials and inspiration for these arresting pieces. The pieces are based with high karat gold or silver enhanced with signature semi precious gems such as labradorite, turquoise, moonstone and of course, the “best opals of the West”.

Tony and Gayatri actually met and fell in love on the road to Afghanistan and ended up in India, where they lived in an ashram, where Tony learned and refined skills of traditional Indian jewelry making. This does not come as a surprise when learning about Tony and Gayatri, as their pieces inspire a certain inner peace and aesthetic tranquility. The couple does not see Spirit of the Earth as another boutique by the Plaza in Santa Fe – but as a path through which positivity flows, as they feel that “putting beauty into the world is important” and that “art is its own reward”.
