Jacobo Toledo

Jacobo Toledo, comprised of two designers/merchandisers/artists : Juan Manuel Huesca Toledo – based in Spain; and Raian Velasco Jacobo -based in Mexico is a truly unique and fresh approach to recycled wood and laser cut design.  There seems to be a softness and spark in their delicate designs that could only be perceived as carved by hand. The round edges, yet high definition of shape and design make their pieces highly appealing on so many levels; it lends a softness to the pieces that translates as ease and comfort for the wearer. Their jewelry carefully plays with minimalism, futurism and innovation as they blend acrylic, recycled wood and their own unique spin on these beautiful rings, bracelets and earrings. These pieces are beyond statement pieces: they set the tone.

  2. I agree that there is a level of minimalism to the pieces. The angular cuts also create dynamic shapes like futurist paintings. The color of the wood and textures also bring thoughts of the arts and crafts movement from the turn of the century. There are many artistic period that seem to have influenced these pieces.

  3. This may not have been their initial design intent, but their pieces are very Architectural. They spark an idea of what could be wearable mini scale models of concept models for modern structures. The use of the color in the material follows the color palates of Le Corbusier and are slightly abstracted like Picasso. The raw wood contrasts with the vibrant colors, paying homage to a mid-century modern aesthetic.

    • Very architectural! Very true, I had the chance to visit one of Le Corbusier’s designed homes last year and see the connection ! Love the Picasso take.

P.S. Random but inspirational Picasso quote of the day:

My mother said to me, ‘If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.’ Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.
      -Pablo Picasso
